artist statement

My artistic practice is rooted in the belief that art takes courage. My code of practice states that as an artist, I must draw from life, take risks and steer clear of self-censorship.

I’ve been an artist starved for time. Today, I relish the time it takes to create. Time is my most precious resource and my illustrations serve as tangible objects that echo this sentiment. This is why I choose to work traditionally. It allows me to engage with my creations on a physical level.

Maintaining a learning habit is vital to my artistic practice. I’m always making an effort to bridge the gap between my skills and my taste.

Writing and drawing in a notebook is how I process and generate ideas. I work with ink and gouache on paper to illustrate impermanent, vivid and messy scenes. I view my illustrations as grounding places for life.

My goal as an artist is to share. To share is to enjoy or suffer something together. By offering my time and energy through art, I aim to curate spaces for contemplation and connection.

My illustrations become objects to experience together, creating time for art in our lives and fostering a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us.

That is what art has done for me.
